In January, the KWB Experience teamed up with Chicago Cubs OF Matt Szczur to give back to the youth of his hometown Cape May, NJ.

The event was called “Szcz The Day” and more than 100 players participated in the three-day workout. Each session featured drills and concepts that helped players ranging from 9 to 17 years old improve their fielding, baserunning, hitting and conditioning.

“When I was growing up and looking for extra help, I had to travel an hour and a half to do it, said Szczur. I wanted something local so that the kids around here could experience it without having to go very far.”

Kevin Wilson, who is Szczur’s personal hitting coach, said he gets his biggest thrills from working with kids. “This is something I love to do. If I can teach a kid to hit the ball hard just one time, it’s worth it to see the look on their face. I get as much joy out of seeing that as I do seeing Matt take (Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton) Kershaw deep.”

Each session ended with the players gathering around to listen to the coaches give them advice not only for what lies ahead in baseball, but to instill valuable life lessons so they can be the best person they can be.

They walked away understanding they needed to “Szcz The Day.”
